HOLIDAY GIVING
Holidays can be a particularly stressful time for many families, and this can be especially true when your family is experiencing the added effects and strain of intimate partner abuse. BDVP serves families from Lexington and the surrounding sixteen counties and we need your help to ensure that program participants celebrate a safe and happy holiday season.
Ways To Help:
Adopt a family — Adult program participants who have worked with BDVP regularly for the past six months select a gift item from one of four categories, and provide a wish list for their children who are not receiving help from any other Christmas program. Limit is $75.00 per child. Donors select a family and shop for gift items.
Mom and Kids Santa Shop — BDVP collects items for families who reside in shelter by setting up a "store" that allows residential adults and children to choose gifts for their family members. Donors will shop for a specific age group. We anticipate having 60 families during the holiday season.
All items are tax deductible, should be new and unwrapped, and batteries should be included when necessary.
When to deliver — BDVP usually distributes gifts during support group sessions, so it is necessary to gather the items by mid-December to ensure that we have time to get them to our families. We encourage donors to visit the shelter facility to drop off their donations so they can see the amazing progress the agency has made.
Year round support — In addition to gifts and monetary donations, BDVP accepts items that help facilitate the shelter's day-to-day operation. This includes twin sheet sets, comforters, towels, pillows, blankets, cleaning supplies, and toiletries. Gift cards to local gas stations, grocery, discount, and department stores help tremendously because the program can use these throughout the year to aid families as they transition out of shelter into permanent housing, or to supplement available resources for non-residential participants.
Who to contact — For all of the above programs please contact Marjorie at (859) 519-1904 or e-mail her at marjorie.stanek@bdvp.org for a family to "adopt" and for delivery directions or gift pick-up arrangements.
Thank you in advance for your generosity, your holiday spirit will provide our families with hope for a brighter next year.
