BDVP

CAPITAL:

The Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program relies on the support of individuals, businesses and corporations within the community to carry out the important work of bringing peace to Kentucky homes.

Though BDVP has helped nearly 10,000 people affected by intimate partner abuse in the past year, we know this is not enough. The emergency shelter has remained above capacity and we have had to provide alternate safe housing options for other survivors of intimate partner violence. The families we serve come from a variety of experiences, backgrounds, beliefs and life chances. By working together we can build a stronger community in which violence is not tolerated for any family or individual.

Phase I: Acquisition

In order to maximize operating dollars and continue to meet the needs of the 17 counties we serve, the Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program is seeking financial support to acquire the current facility.

Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program's emergency shelter is located on 40 acres in Fayette County, providing a beautiful space for privacy, peace and healing.

This 32-bed home includes twelve bedrooms, two community living rooms, a large dining area, group rooms, children's playrooms, library and an art room.

This facility is fully secure and staffed 24 hours per day.

BDVP also operates two satellite offices, located in Madison and Boyle Counties. Counseling, casework, legal advocacy and support groups are offered in every county throughout the Bluegrass region.

Phase II: Expansion

We are in the process of expanding our building to include: 10 bedroom suites which will allow families to move from crisis intervention to stabilization and eventually to self-sufficiency. The suites will provide 6 months to 2 years of supportive housing, case management, financial literacy and individual asset development to help families gain the resources necessary to become self-sufficient.

The building will also contain a 100 person training facility that will serve as a place for community partners including law enforcement, social workers, university students, mental and physical health professionals, local businesses and corporations to gather and learn more about the issues of domestic violence and appropriate interventions.
